My rotation in the perio department was very interesting. During my time there I was able to actually complete a cleaning. This was a relief from always only being able to assist during other rotations. Everything in this department ran really smoothly and it was really neat to watch how perio had to collaborate with other departments to provide patient care. Being that we had already completed the first perio course, this was an opportunity to apply those things that we had discussed in class to the actual patients. The patients in perio were very nice and grateful to be receiving treatment from the residents. There were some individuals who were responding well to treatment while others had little to no response. In all this was a great rotation because I learned something and was able to apply knowledge that I had learned from the classroom to help myself understand what was happening with these patients and overall the purpose of the department.
