1st Patient!!!!
Friday, November 5th was the day that I seen my first patient. I made a previous post about how nervous I was to treat my first patient but all my worries went away when I met my patient. He was the most personable, down-to-earth, understanding patient. He made the appointment a very memorable moment in my journey through this program. Also my student partner was a big help with making the appointment run smoothly. She was very helpful with explaining things if I didn't understand something and overall we worked very well together. Excitingly, we were able to complete our treatment. We have seen other patients since then and again we have been very productive in getting through appointments (not completely, but in good standing). Therefore to my partner and my first patient y'all were amazing and thank you for making that a great experience for me :)
$50,000 Pledged!!!!
A few weeks ago Dr. Franci Stavropoulos, an alumni of the Virginia Commonwealth University Division of Dental Hygiene, pledged $50,000 to the division. This was a very thoughtful gesture of her that will be very beneficial for our hygiene class and incoming hygiene classes. Before the pledge we all attended a luncheon with Dr. Stavropoulos and other hygiene alumni where they shared very insightful information with us regarding their experiences as hygiene students and what they went on to do in the career. Again they were very insightful about the profession of hygiene and I enjoyed listening to them express their thoughts. Also thanks to Dr. Stavopoulos again it is greatly appreciated.

Flipping Friday!!!
Usually Friday is the most anticipated day of the week, however this Friday has my stomach doing flips. This is the a day that I have been waiting for for quite some time now, and now that it is here I am so nervous. Friday, November 5, 2010 is the day that I see my first patient. I am trying not to be so overwhelmed, and I am taking steps to further prepare myself on Friday such as practicing with the computer system that we use in clinic.
I still have a couple of competencies to knock out tomorrow, fluoride and rubbercup polishing. However I think that I should be competent enough to pass those. These competencies are other tools that will better prepare me for Friday.
Hopefully everything will run smoothly on Friday. Good Luck to my class DH2012.
